Amid a shifting climate, Black scholarship in Canada has proliferated over the past two decades; a scholarship that is rich, diverse, diasporic, and transnational. The 2020 conference of the BCSA invites participants from across the country to convene at Western University in London ON, to share our vast range of Black Studies scholarship, and imagine the dynamic futures and new possibilities of our transdisciplinary field. At the same time, the 2020 conference will be an opportunity to celebrate the headway made by the BCSA in its first decade of existence, and to collaboratively shape its directions for its next decade. This year’s conference will consider the futures of Black Studies in Canada, and the following questions: 1. How does scholarship focused on Black life in Canada fundamentally alter the disciplinary approach to these areas, and what unique insights does it bring? 2. What contributions can a scholarly association around Black Studies in Canada (such as the BCSA) contribute to advancing the interests of Black life?
